Perry Historical Society article for the Perry Township Newsletter

The Historical Museum hosted its first Halloween “trunk or treat” event on October 30th. A friendly skeleton guided the little visitors into the museum. The weather was warm and breezy and the spirits could be felt everywhere. There were ghosts and goblins and witches on broomsticks. Fun was had by parents, guides and children alike.

The annual Buckeye Girls and Boys State this year was represented by five girls and one boy. Tom Anderson, Commander of the American Legion Post 697 presented the Historical Society with a  plaque to thank us for our continued support. We are so very proud of the students, well done!

The Perry Historical Society’s holiday open house was held on December 3rd.. Winner of the two gorgeous poinsettias was Ellen Talbot. All the new outdoor lights were donated. The antique Christmas décor including the bubble lights were a sight to see. Christmas Bubble Lights were the idea of Carl Otis in 1938. He sent prototypes out to ten companies and Noma was the only one that responded. The Noma Bubble Lights were formally introduced in 1946 and became a fashionable decoration well into the 1960s.

A big thank-you to Brian Dorr on guitar and Ed Michaels on flute for providing fantastic music at our annual holiday open house. There was hot spiced cider, holiday punch and so many delicious cookies to eat while listening to the wonderful music!

We need fresh ideas from our youth and stories of long ago that are only told around a warm fire on a cold winter’s night. Call Linda Barrett (440-259-5747) to arrange a group or private tour.  Our meetings are held on the second Saturday of each month at the Manchester West building at 10AM. Refreshments are served and all are welcome to attend.
