About Us

A chance meeting of two Perry residents doing separate research projects led to the creation of the Perry Historical Society of Lake County. During the summer of 1991, Mary Platko and John Hise discussed the need to preserve the history of the Perry Community. In November of 1991 they met with other individuals interested in local history. They started meeting regularly and in March of 1992 Perry Historical Society incorporated and received its nonprofit charter.

The Society then began a search for a home for a museum. After a four year search, the Perry Township Board of Trustees officially leased the old Perry Town Hall to the Historical Society. The building at the corner of Center Rd. and Main St. was built in 1875 and has served the community in many capacities in it’s almost 150 year history. The Museum is open on Saturday from 12pm to 4pm, on special occasions and by appointment for tours and research.

The Perry Historical Society stores it’s archival records and files used for historical research in a room on the west end of the Manchester West school building at 4261 Manchester Ave. The use of this room was given to the Society by the Perry Township Trustees who leases part of this building from Perry Schools for use by nonprofit groups. The Historical Society meets on the second Saturday of the month at 10:00 am. The room is available for research by appointment only.
